DAM Solutions MAP 2025

As we do at the beginning of each year at Activo, we have updated the DAM Solutions Map for 2025. This article follows our previous piece on DAM 2025 trends, published last month on DAM News FR.

This map takes an agnostic approach and aims to list as comprehensively as possible all the solutions available on the market, from open-source solutions to enterprise solutions, in relation to the various business needs. It covers sectors such as brand management, retail, e-commerce, as well as agencies, museums, and non-governmental organizations.

We often say this: it is not a race. Each client has their own specific business needs, media assets, and requirements.

This classification is based on our real experience with DAM solutions during project deployments, currently involving nearly 20 clients and around ten different solutions.

We also conduct extensive testing as part of our market solution identification process with DAM News, using the DAM Open Specifications as a foundation. Indeed, a DAM solution serves as an engine for media and metadata.

These specification elements cover the entire media lifecycle, from upload to enrichment and distribution, enabling us to present this new map along with some emerging trends:

  • Full SaaS solutions now represent over 90% of the market.
  • On-premise solutions remain relevant, particularly for managing large production volumes, as seen in some prepress agencies, museums, TV networks, or organizations handling terabytes of video content. Many MAM solutions offer on-premise or hybrid deployment options, as cloud-based solutions often face limitations in file upload times and processing.
  • Over the past 18 months, the focus has been on developing “Portals,” “Brand Guidelines,” and DXP (Digital Experience Platforms) to enhance brand experiences (e.g., Bynder, Frontify, Scaleflex, Acquia, Wedia...).
  • Workflow capabilities are often limited, primarily revolving around media status tracking.
  • Many brands seek to personalize, localize, and translate their marketing and communication content. While some solutions rely on InDesign Server, this approach is more suited to print production than digital content creation.
  • Enterprise ecosystems are becoming increasingly central, integrating PIM, CMS, ERP, and CDP systems. These integrations require customization to align with each client’s data model. However, some solutions, like Bynder, offer extensive PIM and CMS connectors, Keepeek has expanded its offering, and Scaleflex has recently launched its Akeneo connector.
  • The market remains highly fragmented, with upcoming acquisitions expected. The French market continues to be challenging, with budget constraints in a tight economic context. Despite this, ePhoto DAM has just released its version 5, Agelia has followed suit, and Wedia has strengthened its position through strategic investments.
